Out in Harmony, everyone’s favorite Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer, Lesbian, & Friends Adult Community Choir, is bringing you another wonderful concert which you’ll find not only entertaining and thought provoking, but which will leave you with a song in your heart and inspiration in your soul. 

So why are we singing about Heroes & Villains, you ask?  Heroes & villains, good & evil…society has been fascinated by these ideas and telling stories about them for as long as people ave been around.  What do these stories tell us about ourselves, our culture, and the individual’s role in shping our society?  What makes a hero stand out from others? Are there ay real life heroes anymore?  Why are we so intrigued by villains? How des our culture reflect and shape our views of not only what is heroic or villainous, but also how we express that?  Come join us as we explore just a few of these themes through music.  We’ll ride the underground railroad with Harriet Tubman, swing through the night with Spiderman, get our evil on with Cruela De Vil, and much more!

Heroes & Villains will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, 1155 Thurlow Street in Vancouver, on Saturday June 9, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  General Admission Tickets are $15 (with concession tickets available for $10), and the venue is wheelchair accessible.   Tickets will be available at the door, through choir members, or from Little Sister’s.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Denise at denise.garzon@gov.bc.ca before June 1st.

We are selling coffee beans provided by the Sunshine Coast Coffee Company, a local (based in Gibsons) coffee company committed to providing organic fair-trade coffee.  Whole beans come in 1 pound bags for $16 each, and come in two varieties:

DARK HOUSE BLEND (Their biggest seller, a blend of dark and distinctive coffees with a full flavor, bold taste and rich aroma); or
RAINFOREST (A medium roast of the highest quality Brazilian coffee beans. Soft bodied with an earthy flavor and subtle walnut notes).

If you or someone you know would be interested in purchasing some delicious, organic coffee beans while helping support our community choir, please let us know.  Orders and money must be received by Tuesday March 27, 2012; we will deliver the beans to you starting Wednesday April 11th.

The new year is a natural time for navel-gazing and trying to figure out what we really want out of life –Money? Love? Health? Social Justice? Acceptance? A New Car? … 
Come join us as for What I Want  on Saturday January 21^st and we’ll have fun together as we explore desire, happiness, consumerism, and hippopotami during an evening filled with good friends, tears and laughter, warmth, cheer, and of course, music! 

What I Want  is being held on Saturday January 21^st, 2012 at 7:30pm at Central Presbyterian Church [1155 Thurlow Street].  The venue is wheelchair accessible by the back door.  The doors will open at 7pm, and tickets are available at the door, from Little Sister’s Book Emporium, or through choir members  [And don’t forget to bring some extra cash with you, as we’ll be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a wonderful gift basket].

As always, keeping our concerts accessible in all ways is a priority for us, so our ticket prices remain only $15 for a General Admission ticket, with $10 Concession tickets available for anybody who needs a break on price.  Children 12 and under are admitted for free.   
(Donation boxes will be on hand in case you wish to make a financial gift to help us ensure we are able to continue keeping our ticket prices low and affordable to everyone).

Times: Friday evening, 8-9:45pm; Saturday 9:30am-3:30pm.

Place: Room 103, 2780 E Broadway (see Google map here: http://g.co/maps/qgptf) . Enter the main door under the street number. There’s no public parking in the lot; please park on the street.  Bus 9 on Broadway is the best transit option, although the Renfrew Skytrain is only a couple blocks away (it’s uphill to our venue, though). For cyclists, the Central Valley Greenway passes very close (turn north at Kaslo).  The venue is accessible.  We can leave things overnight, but the kitchen will not be available.

What we’ll do: sing, hug, talk, eat, play games, bond, have fun!

What to bring: smiles, your music, coffee mug, a food dish to share for Saturday lunch (please list the ingredients, and don’t forget a utensil to serve it with!) .  The Social Butterfly team invites everyone to wear their pyjamas and slippers Saturday (and bring your favorite stuffed toy!).
