2011 Tax Donations

It is the end of the year, which means not only is it time to pull out the winter blankets and snow boots, but also this is your final chance to top up this year’s charitable donations.   Out in Harmony (aka Vancouver Lesbian & Gay Choir) is a registered charity and dependent upon the financial support of our members, audience, and community supporters.

Please consider making a donation.  Just go to our website www.outinharmony.org and press the button on the right which says “Donate Now through CanadaHelps.org”.   Payments may be made using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Debit, or Paypal.

It is very easy, you’ll get a receipt for your 2011 taxes, and you’ll be supporting a good cause.  You also have the option of turning it into a gift by making the donation in somebody’s name.   It’s win-win all around!

Watch and listen for Out In Harmony carollers on Saturday, December 10 (Commercial Drive) and Saturday, December 17 (Davie Street), as we spread seasonal cheer on busy city sidewalks.  Free festive fun starts at 2pm!  Contact us for details.

As you may have heard, our fall retreat is taking place this Friday (Nov 18) and Saturday (Nov 19)! OIH members are encouraged to attend.  Here are all the details you need.

Times: Friday evening, 8-9:45pm; Saturday 9:30am-3:30pm.

Place: Room 103, 2780 E Broadway (see Google map here: http://g.co/maps/qgptf) . Enter the main door under the street number. There’s no public parking in the lot; please park on the street.  Bus 9 on Broadway is the best transit option, although the Renfrew Skytrain is only a couple blocks away (it’s uphill to our venue, though). For cyclists, the Central Valley Greenway passes very close (turn north at Kaslo).  The venue is accessible.  We can leave things overnight, but the kitchen will not be available.

What we’ll do: sing, hug, talk, eat, play games, bond, have fun!

What to bring: smiles, your music, coffee mug, a food dish to share for Saturday lunch (please list the ingredients, and don’t forget a utensil to serve it with!) .  The Social Butterfly team invites everyone to wear their pyjamas and slippers Saturday (and bring your favorite stuffed toy!).

The retreat is always a highlight of each season; hope you can make it!  If you have any questions, please email Geoff at oihchairperson@gmail.com.

OUTREACH CANCELLED

We are very sorry to announce that we will NOT be singing at this Sunday’s Walk For Life in Stanley Park.

Due to insurmountable logistical issues, this year we will not be able to sing to the many walkers and volunteers who help make this wonderful event happen.  The Walk For Life is a marvelous event for a good cause, and we have been proud to do our part for many years and hope to continue to do so in the future.  We hope the Walk goes well and is very successful, and we look forward to participating again next year and for many years to come.

It’s choir time!

ONE WEEK LEFT!

It is hard to belive that August is almost over and the September Startup is about to begin, but the new choir season is just around the corner. The first rehearsal of the 2011-2012 season is Tuesday, September 6th, 7:30-9:45pm at St. Margaret’s Cedar Cottage Anglican Church, 1530 E. 22nd Avenue (at Dumfries, near the corner of Kingsway and Knight), in Vancouver.

Come start your September off right: catch up with old friends, eat snacks, meet new friends, touch base and find out what the choir year is going to look like, and oh yeah, sing!  Everyone is welcome: New members, old members, not-sures, friends, etc.

Our first performance will be at the Walk For Life in Stanley Park which is on Sunday September 18th.  Therefore the first two choir rehearsals, Sept 6 & Sept 13, will focus musically on preparing the choir to sing in support of the walkers.   We’ll learn some fairly quick and easy new music as well as review some music pulled from last year so that we’ll be ready to perform on the 18th.  The following Tuesday, September 20th, is the rehearsal when we’ll really start turning our attention to the music for the next big concert, set for January 21st, 2012.

[If you think you might be interested but don't think you will be able to commit to an entire season, consider joining us for just the next few rehearsals and the Performance on September 18th.  OR, if you want to join us but your September is just too hectic, join us after the Walk For Life or whenever you can. We accept new members any time of year.]

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

It has been a busy summer already. A big thank you to everyone who came out to sing for the OutGames opening ceremonies on Monday July 25th, and also to all of those who staffed or stopped by the Out in Harmony booth at the Sunset Beach Pride Festival on Sunday July 31st.  The weather was great, the crowd was colourful and energetic, and a great time was had by all.

Don’t forget that this week brings 2 more chances to hang out with your favorite choir peeps and sing your heart out as we take advantage of Vancouver’s wonderful Outdoor Movie screenings. Tonight (Monday August 8th), come to Robson Square, find us in the crowd, and sit with us as we sing along with Kermit, Fozzy, and the gang while watching The Muppet Movie.  Friday (August 12th) there will be a group of us at Harbour Green Park singing along to Grease.  (Estimated start time for both movies is 8:30pm, though we’ll be gathering earlier)

We hope you’ll join us.
