We’ll be singing for the folks at a local seniors’ home on Tuesday, May 30, so we won’t be having a regular rehearsal that evening. If you’re thinking of coming and checking out one of our rehearsals, we’ll be happy to meet you on June 6!
We won’t be having a rehearsal tonight, since we’ll be singing for the lovely folks at Haro Park Centre, a seniors’ residence in the West End. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we’ll resume our regular schedule next week.
Join us and numerous other community organizations downtown at the Central Branch of Vancouver Public Library on July 21, from 10am – 2pm, for a pre-Pride information fair! Stop by our table to visit with choir members, learn about Out In Harmony, sample our music, and find out about our next concert! OIH members able to drop by and spend some time behind the table to smile, meet the public, and answer questions, please e-mail email@example.com. See you there!
We won’t be having a regular rehearsal tomorrow! Instead, we’ll be singing for the residents at the Haro Park Centre seniors’ residence in the West End. We’ve sung there before, and the audience is always very appreciative. We’re always glad to be able to share our music with people who aren’t able to make it to our regular performances, and connect with our community’s valued elders. We’ll return to our regular schedule next week.
We are very sorry to announce that we will NOT be singing at this Sunday’s Walk For Life in Stanley Park.
Due to insurmountable logistical issues, this year we will not be able to sing to the many walkers and volunteers who help make this wonderful event happen. The Walk For Life is a marvelous event for a good cause, and we have been proud to do our part for many years and hope to continue to do so in the future. We hope the Walk goes well and is very successful, and we look forward to participating again next year and for many years to come.
ONE WEEK LEFT!
It is hard to belive that August is almost over and the September Startup is about to begin, but the new choir season is just around the corner. The first rehearsal of the 2011-2012 season is Tuesday, September 6th, 7:30-9:45pm at St. Margaret’s Cedar Cottage Anglican Church, 1530 E. 22nd Avenue (at Dumfries, near the corner of Kingsway and Knight), in Vancouver.
Come start your September off right: catch up with old friends, eat snacks, meet new friends, touch base and find out what the choir year is going to look like, and oh yeah, sing! Everyone is welcome: New members, old members, not-sures, friends, etc.
Our first performance will be at the Walk For Life in Stanley Park which is on Sunday September 18th. Therefore the first two choir rehearsals, Sept 6 & Sept 13, will focus musically on preparing the choir to sing in support of the walkers. We’ll learn some fairly quick and easy new music as well as review some music pulled from last year so that we’ll be ready to perform on the 18th. The following Tuesday, September 20th, is the rehearsal when we’ll really start turning our attention to the music for the next big concert, set for January 21st, 2012.
[If you think you might be interested but don’t think you will be able to commit to an entire season, consider joining us for just the next few rehearsals and the Performance on September 18th. OR, if you want to join us but your September is just too hectic, join us after the Walk For Life or whenever you can. We accept new members any time of year.]
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!
PRIDE weekend is coming up fast, and we need to once again have people
sign up to take a shift at the pride booth. (Sunday, July 31)
Ideally we like to see 2 people assigned to be at the booth at a time,
for 1-hour long shifts, so that nobody is left on their own nor has to
stick around for a long time when they’d rather be watching the parade
or exploring the festival. We need somebody present at the booth at
all times from set-up to take-down, so please, if you are going to be
in town, sign up to take a shift so we can make sure we are covered.
Being at PRIDE is great for our visibility and we usually get several
expressions of interest and a couple of new members each year out of
it, so please help us spread the word about how great it is to be part
of Out in Harmony.
What we need:
MORNING SHIFTS = 9-noon: Set up is usually 8:30 or 9. There are very
few people to hand out info to since the festival probably won’t open
until 11:30, but there are some fellow-venders wandering around.
DURING PARADE SHIFTS = Noon to 3pm: Traffic tends to be fairly light,
but picking up. It is nice to have several folks signed up for this
period so we can take turns watching both the parade and the booth.
MAIN FESTIVAL SHIFTS = 4-6pm: This is the busiest time for passing
out info about the choir. Take down will probably be 6:30.
To volunteer, reply to this post or contact the site (oihwebsite at gmail dot com) and we’ll put you in touch with Denise.
Don’t forget about our Choir Potluck at Herb’s house this weekend, Saturday July 16th at 6pm. Contact Herb at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP & get directions & details.
Also coming up on Tuesday July 19th is the and the 2nd and last rehearsal for our performance at the Outgames opening ceremonies (which take place the following Monday, July 25th). It is not too late to join! NOTE: Rehearsal on Tuesday is NOT in our usual venue. Rehearsal is at the Vancouver Film School at 198 W. Hastings (on the corner of Cambie Street) at 7:30pm.
