It’s that time again!

Hi there, friends of Out in Harmony!  Can you believe that choir starts in two weeks?  We hope that you can join us this year, and that you’ll invite any of your friends that might like to check us out.  Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday, September 3, at 7:30.  We’re still rehearsing in the wonderful space at St. Margaret’s Cedar Cottage Anglican Church, 1530 E 22nd Ave., just off the corner of Kingsway and Knight.  Answers to frequently asked questions about the choir can be found here.

Before we get back to singing, we’re going to have some non-musical fun!  Next Tuesday, August 27, starting at 7:30, we’ll be at the church with board games.  Come and reconnect with choir folks after the summer!  Bring snacks, and friends who might be interested in meeting some of us before they jump into singing!
Our next major concert is on January 25, and is entitled “It’s About Time”.  The songs are all about, well, time – the passage of time, important moments, etc.  Chances are, there’ll be a familiar song you’re happy to see, and something new to catch your interest.
I hope you have a good couple of weeks, and I look forward to seeing your bright shining faces soon!

Summertime

The PRIDE festival this year was very hot, very crowded, and very fun.  Thanks to everyone who took part, whether by being in the parade, spectating, visiting or staffing the booths, or just hanging out and soaking up the festivities.

Though we as a choir are not rehearsing over the summer, several of our members & friends will be getting together on Sunday August 19th at the outdoor showing of Dirty Dancing in David Lam park (1300 blockof Pacivic Blvd in Yaletown).  The movie starts at dusk (around 8:30pm), and a bunch of us will be staking out a good spot early and gathering around 6:30 for a picnic before hand.  Come and join us for food, fun, and singing along with the movie.  Everyone welcome!

Thank you, now let’s sing again!

It has been a busy summer already. A big thank you to everyone who came out to sing for the OutGames opening ceremonies on Monday July 25th, and also to all of those who staffed or stopped by the Out in Harmony booth at the Sunset Beach Pride Festival on Sunday July 31st.  The weather was great, the crowd was colourful and energetic, and a great time was had by all.

Don’t forget that this week brings 2 more chances to hang out with your favorite choir peeps and sing your heart out as we take advantage of Vancouver’s wonderful Outdoor Movie screenings. Tonight (Monday August 8th), come to Robson Square, find us in the crowd, and sit with us as we sing along with Kermit, Fozzy, and the gang while watching The Muppet Movie.  Friday (August 12th) there will be a group of us at Harbour Green Park singing along to Grease.  (Estimated start time for both movies is 8:30pm, though we’ll be gathering earlier)

We hope you’ll join us.

Grease is the Word!

Choir members and all friends of Out In Harmony are invited to join the social butterflies for a second movie this summer. On Friday August 12th Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John is playing and we’ll be there. (Hey, we even know the
music to “We Go Together” ;-)

There will be picnicing starting 6:30 p.m. on the grass close to the Coal Harbour Community Centre. To get there, just keep going towards the water, (Harbour Green Park 480 Broughton Street). The movie itself starts around 8:30 if you’re not able to join us for dinner.

Bring blankets to sit on and sweatshirts as it does get chilly, and nibbles (food of whatever sort, as always with ingredients labelled to help out those will allergies), or just your fabulous selves. Friends, sweeties, prospective choir members and the like are all welcome. We can’t wait to see you there!

“Can You Picture That?”

The Muppet Movie (yes the original one from 1979) is playing at Robson Square the evening of Monday, August 8.

Dennis L will be “Moving Right Along” to that showing along with Chris and several others, and says: I’d love you to be there, too! “Never Before, Never Again” will the opportunity present itself to watch this movie on a big screen with all my friends, and I intend to enjoy it to the full. “I Hope That Something Better Comes Along” than the weather we’ve been having, but I intend to be there rain or shine.

Please be there with me, and we’ll watch the show and sing along from “Rainbow Connection” to “The Magic Store” and every song in between.

Hope to see everyone there!

NOTE: POSSIBLE RAIN UPDATE —  In case it is raining as of 4pm on Friday the 27th, consider the above plan cancelled (because who wants to have a picnic in a muddy field?)  In such case, some of us will still be meeting at 6pm at the Blenz inside the Main downtown Library, Library Square at 345 Robson Street for a bit of a chat and warm drink, so come on by to join us if you are so inspired.  We’d love to see you.
